Word Work Reading Records
Dear Parents,
This year, we will be studying words by their spelling patterns. At the beginning of the year, we do an assessment that identifies the gaps or weaknesses in spelling patterns that your child has. Students are then placed in planet groups, based on their needs, and sort their words using the patterns. We also will be using SpellingCity.com in our classroom. SpellingCity is a website that helps students learn their spelling words while having fun at the same time. As a teacher, I will ensure your child knows which words they need to practice and I will post it on the website. We will have spelling touchpoints where students will sort and spell their words they have practiced. You can find our class’ spelling lists by using the Find A List feature and searching for my name, Andrea Payne, or you can go directly to my SpellingCity homepage at http://www.spellingcity.com/Awesome5EVG/. You can bookmark this URL on your computer to make it easy for your child to access the word lists! Let’s work together as a team to ensure that your child becomes an independent, lifelong learner. |
As book lovers ourselves we would love to share our enthusiasm for reading. We will be starting a "someday list" where students can "shop" though many books and select ones they are interested in reading. We also will ensure students have independent reading time at least three times a week. Students will be creating a record of their reading, and will be able to learn more about themselves as readers.
We encourage students to bring books from home, or sign them out from our library. We also have ample books in our classrooms! Writing |
